Orange Chamber of Commerce Organizes Manufacturers Council
Purpose: The Orange Chamber of Commerce Manufacturer’s Council role is to support, promote, educate and assist the manufacturing industry in Orange and central Orange County.
Structure: The Orange Chamber of Commerce has formed a Manufacturer’s Council committee, a subcommittee of the Board of Directors, headed up by a Board member or other member of the Chamber of Commerce designated by the Board of Directors. Other Chamber members are invited to serve on the committee based on their background and experience with the manufacturing industry.
Goals:
Manufacturers Breakfast: The Orange Chamber of Commerce has organized a breakfast at at National Oilwell Varco - arranging the speaker and the agenda of interest to the manufacturing industry. Manufacturers are asked to host a breakfast. Tours: The Orange Chamber of Commerce has arranged a tour of National Oilwell Varco with Congressman Ed Royce and Mayor Cavecche, along with Chamber representatives. Several other manufacturers, including Coca Cola Distributing plant, have expressed interest in a tour.
Assistance With Permitting: The Chamber is uniquely positioned to assist with the permitting process for the manufacturers. We have assisted in moving the permitting process forward with Coca Cola Distribution plant for their expansion project in Orange. Our goal is to smooth the process so that manufacturers remain in Orange.
Student Education: Currently, the Orange Chamber of Commerce has a Junior Leadership Orange Program in which students, who are at risk, are shown the opportunities available to them, if they remain in school. Our goal is to connect these students from Orange High School with the manufacturers. Several manufacturers have expressed interest in providing opportunities for employment for these and other students and are very interest in tours of their plants and job fairs.
Grants: The Rancho Santiago Community College District and the Orange County SBA has funds available for education for manufacturers and their employees. Often the manufacturer is unaware of these funds. The council will assist in educating the manufacturers on the program, through the assistance of the College District.
Community Education: The Chamber of Commerce would also like to connect the manufacturers and the business community of Orange. Our goal is to develop a better understanding of the value of the manufacturing industry and to have the business community of Orange becomes a business advocate against anti-business regulations that are often proposed against the industry.
